Middle School Boundary Update
APS held two “What We Heard” meetings last week, where they presented the community feedback on the draft blended and illustrative maps they posted in September for discussion.
If you were unable to attend the meetings, please review this presentation. It contains two new options for boundary changes, both of which have significant impacts for the Glebe community. Under both scenarios, our school community would feed into three middle schools: Swanson, Williamsburg, and the new Middle School at the Stratford site.
APS will also be gathering input on these options via their online feedback form between now and November 3rd. Please use these opportunities to voice any thoughts or concerns you may have. After the feedback period ends, the Middle School Boundary proposals will be posted online November 8th and the Superintendent will make his recommendation to the school board on November 14th.
If you have specific questions or would like to discuss the options, please feel free to contact Cindy Scarcella (firstname.lastname@example.org), the Glebe Ambassador to APS on these initiatives.
Glebe Garden Committee – DATE CHANGED TO Nov 5th
Kids and adults are needed to join the volunteer effort to help beautify Glebe! On Sunday, November 5th from 9 am – 12 pm the Glebe Garden Committee will be doing a day of planting. Bring your gloves and a shovel!
Original Works – DATE CHANGED TO Nov 13th
Your child(ren) are currently creating a beautiful piece of art for the Original Works program. Look for order forms and artwork to be sent home this week! There’s a display case next to the main office with a bunch of samples of Original Works products. Take a look!! We are looking for four more volunteers on November 13th to help us organize orders.
Book Swap – Nov 13th, 14th & 15th
First, bring in your gently used books to the Glebe lobby from November 9 – November 15 (*please bring books that are kindergarten and up, not pre-school level). Second, come to the Book Swap on Wednesday, November 15 between 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM to pick out “new to you” books! It’s super easy and super fun! Volunteers are needed over several days to make this event successful, click here to sign up.
Thank you to the families that came out to support Glebe at Pete’s Pizza on Wedensday!
Please come to our November PTA meeting where we will have a “Be Safe” presentation on gun safety, including ways to keep our kids safe and how to ask others about guns in their homes. Sra. Umana will also present on Shareplay, a non-profit dedicated to providing safe playgrounds in impoverished communities in El Salavador. Find more about Shareplay and their recent donations here: www.shareplay.org and you can find it on Facebook as well. Our PTA meeting is on November 1st at 7 pm in the Glebe Library. Free childcare is provided for all potty-trained kids!
The first week of November we will be rolling out our No-Fuss Fundraiser in support of Hoffman-Boston Elementary School. In previous years with our community’s support, they have started and expanded their after-school enrichment program. Last year we raised $1,495 for their community which they used to create scholarships for their after school enrichment program. Hoffman Boston has an extremely diverse parent/student community encompassing many different cultures, faiths, and backgrounds, and with the benefits of that diversity also comes the challenge of bringing families together in a way that makes them feel comfortable and included. Their PTA is hoping to substantially increase their family outreach through educational, informational, and social events. The funds we raise for them will go towards their goal of community building within the school and additional after-school enrichment scholarship programs. Let’s help them reach their goals! Please submit donations via PayPal to email@example.com
Lastly, if you’ve been at Glebe for a bit you know how awesome the Halloween Parade is and if you’re new to Glebe, please come! It’s so much fun watching the kids dressed in their costumes march around the field to the Swanson Middle School Band. Parade starts TODAY around 1:15pm. Hope to see you there!
