News from External Affairs

On March 28, the School Board will discuss the Superintendent’s proposed budget in a public hearing, followed by a County Board public hearing about the County Budget on April 2nd.  If any of the proposed cuts strike you as unacceptable, please make your voice heard at these upcoming meetings.  Some
Here is a summary from the March 6 meeting:
APS is attempting to find about $9M in the FY 2020 budget by imposing some fees (e.g., middle school activity fee, raising high school parking fees) and by eliminating some programs and positions.
Cuts under consideration that affect elementary schools in particular include:
* eliminating elementary school library assistants
* eliminating the printing of report cards
* eliminating activities at the Outdoor Lab
* eliminating funding for discretionary field trips
* postponing the hiring of additional psychologists and social workers
The budget is long (https://www.apsva.us/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/FY-2019-Superintendents-Proposed-Budget.pdf), but pages 58-60 present the complete list of proposed cuts.

Have an extra, working monitor at home that you're not using? Consider donating it to a Glebe teacher! There are eight Glebe teachers who could use a monitor that connects to their laptops or iPads to help manage hybrid and virtual school. If you have an extra, gently used monitor at home, please consider donating it to the school. Monitors should be dropped off at Glebe during open office hours (8-4pm). Please note this is a donation, not a loan. All donations are final and teachers will use them as they see fit. Please email Liz Newman at Liznewman@gmail.com with any questions. ...
