Magnet for Membership

Designed by Glebe mom, Laura Harrington, we are pleased to offer a new car magnet! This year, when you join the PTA, you will automatically receive the magnet.

President’s Corner

We made it through the first week of school! It was great meeting new parents and seeing old friends at the Welcome Back Coffee!

It takes a village to make our PTA amazing (and it IS amazing!). These incredible parents took time out of their summer to help the school year start off with a bang! Over the summer, Ainsley Stapleton coordinated all of the School Kit supplies and Maureen Mellett made sure they were delivered to each class. Maureen Mellet and Sarah Goodell ordered t-shirts for our kindergartners. Cindy Scarcella, Alexis Johnson, Lauren Barber, Laurel Hanke, Sarah Goodell, Shireen Dodini, Holly Radus, Jill Yasin, Jessica Burke, Grace Ann Bourne, Missy Heinzer, Jaqueline Lotts, Christina Headrick, Jessica Buckwalter, Lisa Gumbs and Jeff Bogdanovich put together the first day packets given to each family on the first day of school.

Enrichment registration starts on Sunday, September 17, at 8 pm. Some classes will fill up very quickly, so be online and ready to hit refresh at 8 pm on the dot. The registration link will be posted here: Payment will go to each vendor (usually by check on the first day of class). Over the weekend class offerings will be posted here: Thanks to Sarah Smith, Jessica Burke, Beth Feldpush, Lynda Ramirez Blust, Joy Zaremba and Christina Caretti for making our afterschool enrichment inclusive, fun and exciting for our kids!

APS seeks input from Glebe parents in developing a plan for Reed Elementary students in the Westover neighborhood! If you’re willing to support APS with your ideas, guidance, and creativity, they need you on the Building Level Planning Committee (BLPC). If you are interested please contact APS Project Manager, Aji Robinson, at

Thanks for supporting the PTA and District Taco by coming to our 1st Glebe dining night. It was a fun night and tacos, burritos and quesadillas were enjoyed by all! As always, call, email or find me at Glebe if you have a question or suggestion!

Update from the Principal

We are off to a great start at Glebe.  As of today, we have 621 eager students filling our classrooms and our hearts.  I wanted to thank all of our families new and old for such a great start to the school year!

Tomorrow, September 13th, at 7 pm is Back to School night. We have two rounds of visits, so if you have 2 or more children you will need to decide the order in which you will visit classrooms. The first round will start at 7 pm, the second at 7:30. Specialists will be around if you would like to check in with them as well. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to stop by!

Weekly News

Welcome to our inaugural newsletter! Each Tuesday, we will issue an online update with the latest news and activities around Glebe.

How We Will Communicate This Year

We will now communicate through our website ( and you can follow us on Facebook and Twitter. If you have a question for the PTA, just email us at – it’s that easy!

Our New Website

Now you have the ability to access documents such as the Weekly Newsletter, Room Parent Guidelines, descriptions of all committees, volunteer for an event, join the PTA, enroll for your enrichment classes, and much more, all in one place.

District Taco – Night Out!!!

Visit District Taco Wednesday between 4 -10 pm and mention Glebe Elementary when you order; and the PTA gets 20% of the proceeds!

President’s Corner

All of us at Glebe PTA extend a warm welcome to all families. Currently, we have 594 students registered!

The primary way the PTA will communicate to the community will be our new website. For now, the Yahoo listserv will be active but we will be phasing it out gradually over the coming school year. We will print newsletters for the next several months to reach everyone in the community. We really hope you’ll sign up for our weekly newsletter (and/or membership) to stay in the know. Huge thanks to Christina Headrick, Elaine Maag, Missy Heinzer, Enjoli Goyal, Lauren Barber, Laura Harrington, Tara Blankinship, Lisa Gumbs, Henry Shinn for their time and hard work to make the new website a reality. They worked countless hours to build the website and make it a one-stop shop for all things PTA!!!

The PTA Executive Committee and others have been working this summer to plan for a fun-filled 2017-18 school year. We’re bringing back all of the activities you know and love: Soccer Fiesta,  Spring Social and Auction,  Annual 5K and much, much more. New for this year are bowling night, Glebe dining and shopping nights, and end of the year ice cream social. After a short hiatus, the Spring Showdown teacher basketball game is back!

If you have questions, ideas or suggestions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Our goal is to be inclusive and fun, and I’d love to hear from you. From all of us at the PTA, we are looking forward to a great year.

Kristen Johnson, PTA President

Update from the Principal

One of our focuses this year will be on attendance, as we do have a tardy problem.  Please adjust your family schedules in the morning to have your student(s) here by 8:45am.  Students in kindergarten through 2nd grade line up in the gym and grades 3-5 meet in the MPR.  At 8:50am the bell rings and patrols escort the students to their classes.  Students arriving after 9:00am in the morning are considered tardy, unless they have arrived via bus.

We are so proud of our students and staff.  We just learned that we have earned the Governor’s 2017 Board of Education Distinguished Achievement Award and have been ranked number 6 in Virginia by Niche.

Please stop by, email or call if you have any questions, concerns or just want to say hello! Cheers to the 2017-2018 school year!

Jamie and Ingrid
