AFAC Food Drive EXTENDED

October 1 – 5

ANNOUNCEMENT:  IF GLEBE FAMILIES FILL THE AFAC BOXES IN THE SCHOOL LOBBY BY FRIDAY, OCT. 5TH, THEN THE KIDS WILL GET NO HOMEWORK THE FOLLOWING WEEK!!!

Please bring in a non-perishable canned goods (vegetables, fruit, tuna), cereals, peanut butter and jelly are needed.  Please help us support Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC) which provides over 2, 300 Arlington families dignified access to nutritious, supplemental groceries each week—free of charge!


PTA Meeting

Wednesday, October 3rd, 7 pm: Glebe Library

On the agenda:  We will hold a brief  election for the Executive Board position External Affairs  and a Walk to School  Safety and Social Media Safety presentation by SRO Corporal Tiffanie Hegerty.

If you have an agenda item you’d like to discuss at an upcoming meeting, please send it to glebepta@gmail.com ASAP. We will have child care for all potty trained children during the meeting.  Spanish translation will be provided.


Odyssey of the Mind Information Session / Spontaneous Problem Solving Workshop

Friday, October 5th, 3:45-5: Glebe Library

The Odyssey of the Mind Team will be holding a spontaneous problem solving workshop session for students in 3rd – 5th grade, starting on Friday, Oct 5th at 3:45 in the Glebe Library. More information regarding the program can be found here: https://www.glebepta.org/extras/odyssey-of-the-mind/


BFF Kicks Off with National Walk to School Day!

Wednesday, October 10th is National Walk to School Day and what better way to kick off our Be Your Body’s Best Friend Forever (BFF) Program!


Dining Night at District Taco

Monday, October 15th, 5-9 PM

Take a break from cooking dinner and head over to District Taco (5723 Lee Hwy, Arlington, VA) and mention Glebe Elementary when you order.  The PTA gets a percentage of the proceeds for Glebe events and activities!  Tell your friends too!


Rhyme & Cheese Night coming up!

Rhyme and Cheese Night

Rhyme & Cheese celebrates Glebe students’ own writing in the hopes that it will encourage a love and excitement for the craft by all who participate and come to listen. The student will share their own original writing on October 16th at 7 pm with the Glebe community in a relaxed atmosphere and hopefully learn to love (or at least get comfortable) speaking in front of others. The Listeners are just as critical as The Writers, so encourage your student to come support their Glebe-mates. Submissions are due October 11th and a lottery will be conducted to select 30 students. The Submission form can be found at the end of this newsletter and should be turned in the Glebe Lobby.

Fall Potluck & Movie Night coming up – 10/19 – HELP US PICK THE MOVIE!

Glebe’s annual potluck and outdoor movie night is coming up on October 19th and we need your help!

Don’t miss your chance to see the Legwarmers!!!

Wanna relive the 80’s.  Join fellow Glebers for a rockin’ blast to the past.  We have 14 tickets left for the It’s a Glebe 80’s party @ the Legwarmers Concert, which is scheduled for Saturday, October 27th at 9PM at the State Theater in Falls Church. Get those Madonna outfits ready, dust off your Jordache jeans and join us for a fun night. Tickets are $100/person.  If interested, email Erika Hartingh at emhartingh@hotmail.com

  • Have used crayons? Our broken, used crayons are being collected and re-purposed. Just drop them off in the main office collection bin or in your child’s classroom!

Dining Night at Pete’s APizza – TODAY/TONIGHT!!!

September 25th, All Day, 11-9:30 PM

Take a break for lunch or from cooking dinner and head over to Pete’s New Haven Style Apizza in Clarendon (3017 Clarendon Blvd) on TUESDAY anytime between 11:00 – 9:30 pm and mention Glebe Elementary when you order.  The PTA gets 25% of the proceeds for Glebe events and activities!  Tell your friends too!


AFAC Food Drive

September 24 – 28th

AFAC is the only organization in Arlington, VA, solely devoted to providing over 2, 300 Arlington families dignified access to nutritious, supplemental groceries each week—free of charge.  September is National Hunger Action Month.  Please bring in a non-perishable canned goods (vegetables, fruit, tuna), cereals, peanut butter and jelly are needed.  Please help us support Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC)!


Odyssey of the Mind Information Session / Spontaneous Problem Solving Workshop

The Odyssey of the Mind program will kick off with an information session on Tuesday, September 25th at 7:00 pm in the Glebe Library. Additionally, The Odyssey Team will be holding spontaneous problem solving workshop sessions for students in 3rd – 5th grade, starting on Friday, September 25th at 3:45 in the Glebe Library. After School Fall Enrichment / Glebe Theater Kicks Off

October 1st

Just a reminder all Glebe Enrichment classes and the Theater rehearsals begin the week of October 1st.  Remind your kids what they are doing afterschool!


Glebe Nourishment Program

The Glebe Food Pantry operates on the goodwill of volunteers and your donation of food. All food donated to the pantry goes to Glebe families.  We are also collecting toiletries now!  In our experience, the following items are most needed:

  • Sugar
  • Flour
  • Cooking oil
  • Bags of dried beans
  • Maseca flour for tortilla
  • Canned food or vegetables
  • Dried pasta
  • Jars of spaghetti sauce
  • Peanut butter
  • Jelly or jam
  • Breakfast cereals
  • Boxes of macaroni and cheese
  • Gift cards to Safeway / Harris Teeter / Giant

The donations of items is ongoing – it is not a onetime collection. Please consider purchasing an extra item in your regular grocery shopping and donating it to the pantry.  Donations can be placed in the basket in the Glebe Lobby.

Legwarmers
