It’s the end of the world as they know it. For our students and also for us as parents, 5th Grade is a special year at Glebe! A group of volunteers organizes these extra special events to celebrate the rising of the 5th Grade class. Due to the pandemic, 2020 events took place with social distancing, outside, and creativity. There were yard signs and car parades, and online photo albums, rather than the usual festivities.
More details to come later on these events for 2021.
5th Grade Dance
The 5th Grade Dance will take place in the Glebe Multipurpose Room on DATE TBD. This will be an opportunity for 5th Graders to bring a special adult in their lives (no drop-off please!) and give a break to athletic clothes. Three to five parents help with the event planning. Volunteers handle food, logistics, set-up and clean-up. If you are interested, contact the event coordinator, TBD.
Our 5th Grade students’ Promotion Ceremony will be at Washington-Lee high school on TBD.
Please contact Tara Blankinship (email) if you are interested in being connected, or ask your 5th Grade room parents how you can help plan event leading up to that ceremony. Many volunteers will be needed for our end-of-school events. We will post volunteer sign-ups here for the send-off celebrations.
5th Grade Picnic
The 5th Grade holds a picnic in Woodlawn Park on their way to promotion rehearsal at Washington-Lee High School. We recruit a 5th Grade parent to coordinate this event, including food, logistics, setup and cleanup. This year’s picnic will be on TBD.
5th Grade Party
The 5th Grade celebrates their impending graduation with a special, all-day, outdoor party at Glebe. Coordinator(s) of this event, typically 5th Grade parents take responsibility for soliciting volunteers, logistics, rentals, food, set-up, and take down of this event. The party typically includes large inflatable water slides and water play in the Glebe recreation field, in addition to music, lunch, an ice cream truck, and other activities. The date set for this year’s event is TBD .
